<< Has anybody replaced non-PS rack with PS rack? The vehicle in question is 83 Westy. Any problems with installation? Exact replacement fit? Hose suggestions? Anyone selling PS rack?>>

Leon,

I'm going to perform this swap. I'm just trying to find a mounting bracket since I am putting it on a turbodiesel syncro. The supsension uprights (steering knuckles?) are slightly different. The tierods attach to the uprights such that the truning radius is reduced. The steering effeort is increased by this modification but more than made up for by the PS rack. You can install the rack without chaging the uprights but you don't gain the faster turns afforded b yuthe PS rack.

You really should find a donor van to get all the pieces. My used parts dealer sells good used racks at $150 outright. Those only slightly higher prices at the FLAPS won;t do you any good unless you have a bad PS rack to give them. Ther was also a listee selling a rack for something like $75 last week.

PS equipped vans and Westies have a relay which jacks-up the RPM to compensate for the load of the PS pump. You can just as easily use your foot on the accelerator for that.

Anyway, I wil detail it on a webpage if and when I get around to it. You are welcome to pamil me if you need additional info.

BenT
