Incidentally, for anyone whose radiator fan is in need of replacement, I got a closeout on them from VW. Regular retail on these is $450 (!!!) For 1.9L Vanagons (all, '83-85), and 2.1L Vanagons without Air Conditioning ('86-91): 251 959 455G $99.95 For 2.1L Vanagons with A/C: 251 959 455M $149.95 Note: The actual part number on the latter unit that I have is 251 959 455AA, not M. These came right from VW/Germany and I don't believe the AA units were used on vans in the US market. I have confirmed that the actual fan motor meets the same specs as that on the 455M that came on US vans (it is higher powered than the earlier G version used on '83-85). But there may be other minor differences that account for the difference in letter suffix, such as the electrical plug or the size of the fan blades. On the other hand it may be a direct swap, or even an upgrade; not having a 455M on hand to compare it to I can't be positive. Therefore I'm playing it safe and listing it as a "radiator fan motor. " Even if you have to swap out your old fan blade assembly, that is very easy to do and much preferable to paying $450. I only have 6 available, and will discount the first one by another $20 to someone who can immediately report back to me if, or how, it differs from an actual 455M.
