In 1987 I was in Houston Texas at a company that specializes in thread design (like pipe thread) . They had about thirty complete and bare castings for helicopter refueling valves lying around in various levels of assembly. They were testing existing threads and designing improved threads for the refueling valves. I noticed that all of the castings for the valves said US Air Force on the castings and I commented that the Air Force colors were Blue, the Army; Olive Green, The Navy; Gray and I didn't know about the Marines color for ground equipment but it seemed strange for all of these refueling valves to be Sand colored. The company owner casually mentioned "Oh. We're going to have a desert war.", and we sure did in 1991.
