Dear Shawn, Yeah, you can simply drop the cannisters and plug the lines -- diesel fuel isn't as volatile and thus is exempt from this form of evaporative pollution control. This is exactly what I did on my TDI conversion. Bentley hints at this, btw. Cheers, MJS

I'm starting to prepare for a gas to TD swap on my '88 2WD Westy and was wondering about the fuel tank. I'm planning to drop the tank to check for rust & paint. Can I remove the charcoal canisters and associated tubing leaving just the filler and a vent? Any tips from those who've done this conversion? Also, do the stock diesel Vanagons have a large water separator near the tank similar to the Golf/Jetta diesels? If not, I assume I can install one in the current fuel filter/pump location? ======================== Shawn Wright Computer Systems Manager Shawnigan Lake School http://www.sls.bc.ca swright@sls.bc.ca |
