Subject: shocks ,skylight flex arm, and exhaust
Content-Type: text/plain; format=flowed

Well it's time to order new shocks for the Westy. I am seriously considering bilsteins, they seem to be the best all around. For some reason KYB just doesn't seem right, I guess it's because I believe you get what you pay for, and with the extra weight of the westy I don't want cheapo shocks that will wear out in 10,000 miles. So I was wondering if campers came from the factory with the exact same boge shocks as the plain vanagons, and if so what was the expected life of those shocks?

My second question deals with the poptop skylight flex arm. The two round plastic washers that hold the end of the arms in the metal sleeve of the skylight are broken. I can't open or close it without the arms popping out. Has anyone found a way to fix these when they break? or do I need to plop down 30 bucks for a whole new mechanism?

Third question may be a little weird. I replaced my CAT with an elimnator pipe yesterday and when I got the CAT off the inside was empty. This angered me a little, as I thought I just wasted 30 bucks that I could have spent on that flex arm. But I was wondering if the fact that the CAT is much bigger than the exhaust pipe, that when the exhaust reached it, it would require more pressure to push through the muffler since there was more volume to fill? I went ahead and put the new pipe on in hope that my crazy thought was correct and that having the same size pipe clear to the muffler would help a little. Anybody know if this idea is right?

Thanks, Nathan 85 Westy 74 Bus
