My 1.9L Westy recently developed a bad studder upon deceleration (foot off the gas) at nearly any speed. Started running all the electrical diagnostic tests shown in Bentley. I poked (with a tester I don't know how to use) and prodded all the wire connections, and got interesting readings that made no sense to me, and didn't always match what Bentley said. Plugged everything back together after cleaning the connections and... HALL-EH-LUH-LEE-AH!!! I'm a genius! Hesitation cured using a dash of Steve Sullivan Magic Incantation (swearing profusely) and a can of electrical connection cleaner. Moral of this story: first thing, unplug your electrical connections, clean 'em, and plug 'em back together one at a time before getting all crazy and ripping the engine apart in search of that elusive idle stabilizer, temp sensor, or whatever else you suspect isn't working. On our old water boxes, that just might do the trick. Don't forget all your ground connections too. Good once-a-year pound of prevention. Cheers, y'all.
