John, Take care of this RIGHT NOW. I had that rusted line blow out while I was enroute to the beach with the whole family, including the dog, in the van. It happened in DC on the Geo. Washington Parkway near National Airport during rush hour on a Friday. By the Grace of God, I got it under control before disaster struck. We limped into a VW dealer in Alexandria, VA and I kissed ass to get the repair done. We left $280 poorer, plus a carton of cigarettes as a thank you for the service manager. I could have probably had the fun of repairing it in an AutoZone parking lot, but I at the time, I was more into counting my blessings than my dollars.

Price the VW part. If you decide to roll your own, any brake line can be bent into the necessary configuration with an inexpensive bender or bending springs. A flaring tool does not cost that much either.
