Another consideration-- I recently installed a Kenwood 8017 MP3 player, I like it and it works well, but it goes ALL the way back to the plastic heater box, reducing the airflow around the heatsink of the amplifier. It does get very hot when pushing watts, but so far I have not had a burnout. I did remove the dash speaker cover to increase the cooling in that tight area. The rear mounting bracket is unnecessary in this case because the curve of the heater box actually supports the rear of the unit, so that is the limit for depth. I have actually seen desperadoes hack a hole in the heater box to install the stereo.
