Hello, -----Original Message----- From: Vanagon Mailing List [mailto:vanagon@GERRY.VANAGON.COM]On Behalf Of van man Sent: Wednesday, September 26, 2001 6:27 PM To: vanagon@GERRY.VANAGON.COM Subject: CV Joint Question

Hi,

Ok, I was servicing the CV's and managed to lose a ball bearing. Seeing that the casings had some scuffs and wear, I decided to buy another joint.

The joint came in the mail today, and it seems REALLY tight compared to the last 4 I have serviced.

That's normal. Why would you want to take it apart? Just remove whole old joint and install new one I cant even get the bearings out of the outer casing. There doesnt seem to be much play at all when when pushing the inner casing, the entire assembly barely moves.

With my older joints, I could push in the middle and the assembly would move in and out freely.. I had to be careful not to push to far or the bearings would fall out.

Your new ones will be this way after break-in. Leon 85 Subwagen Westy

Ive made sure that the new joint is assembled correctly..thats not a prob.

Is this tight new joint a concern, or are my older ones just looser becuase of wear?

Any help would be appreciated.

jg
