I would not recommend you use these while driving. The idea is to use them while camping, or when you are parked out in the sun. The extension works just like your existing latch and it locks and unlocks and opens just like your hatch does now.

You slip the straight end into your catch, lift up slightly and then close the hatch into the hooked end of the Airlock. If you lock your hatch, you won't be able to remove the Airlock unless you unlock it.
