I read the manual and did it, but it's not relevant because the nut is FROM BELOW the mounting mechanism and not from behind the mirror glass. >with the mirror out you can see the problem. Sorry, nope...;-) there's nothing to be seen from the top side of the hinge. > This was over a year ago, so my memory is a bit > fuzzy, Like all of us... > but: I had no special tools, but I was able to get > the nut > back on over the pipe (with wires coming up out of > it) and > then with make shift tools - 2 screw-drivers held > together > with a tie wrap for leverage - I was able to turn > the nut > enough to tighten it and keep the mirror casing in > place. > I can't remember if I took the mirror off or not. I tried using a small chisel which is about the right width, taking care not to damage the wires, but gravity as well as the spring work against you trying to get the nut aligned enough to the threaded pipe to get it started on the thread. IMO it would be much easier with the mirror off the door and inverted. Just trying to avoid the hassle (the mounting screws are locked from within the door with additional nuts against theft...). > If you need more than that - let me know. Malcolm Right-on Malcolm, but thanks for trying... I think I'll try a bit more before I resort to removing the mirror.
