It seems like a bunch of different things can cause the "dreaded bucking", as the FI system misfires or the ECU freaks out. I've had it happen on my '89 when my spark plug wires needed replacing, and a real bad case once when I got a batch of bad gas. I still get it fairly reliably when I've been running the engine sustained at high revs and it's very warm - especially bad at high altitudes - and I decelerate even the slightest bit (as in trying to hold speed constant when cresting a hill.) Then I can get a fairly violent bucking and missing that will go away as soon as I accelerate. Tried the famous airflow meter capacitor harness trick, but it never made any difference for me. I don't think my symptoms ever really matched the syndrome that it was supposed to cure. Hopefully it's all history for me now as my new TIICO engine goes in this week... -Steve |
