Charles: some 4 or 5 years ago I received a powered antenna booster from
Crutchfield. While it doesn't do a thing when you're camping out in the
boonies, because there are no radio waves to pick up, it does allow radio
reception quite a bit further from the transmitters than without. For
example, I can receive a particular station some 40-60 miles beyond where I
would lose it without the booster. For that reason I have left it in place.
The downside is it can mess up the scan feature on some radios. Because it
boosts everything picked up by the antenna, some lesser radios merely have
louder, stronger static between stations, so if you hit the scan button, it
goes up one click and stops, playing static. Not a big deal if everything is
already programmed, but just something to be aware of. I have it powered
from the antenna lead on the radio.
