Well, this sounds like a response to my posting. I did post a subject line.
If you didn't like it you, should have exercised your delete key. Just as I
have often done when I get stuff from the list concerning enlarging my
already er...... ego. Or back when we first got Snow Brown and the Seven
Giants virus.
Do you know how many people ask about where to get Vanagon specific parts and
complain about not knowing where to get them? The archive is full of
inquiries asking about where to get his headlight bucket or that bracket. See
for yourself if you want to get annoyed even more. Do you have any idea how
many people actually know they can buy Vanagon parts on eBay? If people
surfed eBay all day for this stuff, they would have no need to read postings
such as mine. They can simply delete it.
As for long term value, postings concerning things for sale whether on eBay
or Yahoo or whatever help inform listees as to what certain parts can sell
for. It also helps dictate the market. As an example: Once upon a time, 16"
Syncro flares sold for $1000+. Wouldn't you know it? The moment the postings
from a competing vendor came in the price dropped to nearly half.
Someone else had posted a very similar matter some month's ago. This person
was very irate. Just out of curiosity I checked out the item in question.
Wouldn't you know it? The guy was one of the bidders. He was quite annoyed to
be overbid by someone on the list. He wanted to keep the eBay interest to as
few people as possible.
I had posted an item for a friend last month on eBay. Then subsequently to
the list. On the first two days of the auction, there were a total of 3
people who looked at the item. Within the first 24 hours of posting on the
list, there were over 150 hits. If all these people were constantly on the
prowl on eBay, they must ALL just happen to view it at the same time and not
even notice by list posting.
I don't living selling stuff on eBay. I don't even always sell my own stuff.
The aforementioned headlight buckets for sale are from another listee who
doesn't have much of an idea what eBay is. Yet he sold about ten items last
month. I posted them for him. You can confirm this by pmailing me for his
email address if you'd like.
Anyway, it takes all kinds. I believe that if the list in general did not
approve of such postings, eventually they will disappear. If such posting
become prohibited on the list then I will stop placing them. However until
that time comes, I will keep posting and reading such things as the list
moderators permit.
I am just as willing to read/delete/save/whatever postings such as yours as
long as the list admin. permits them to exist.
