Tobin,

Excellent post. One of the things that has bothered me about the diesel oil pickup is the integration of the pickup with the pressure relief valve in one assembly. In my gas conversion(s) I have used the 36 mm long high volume pump with the diesel pickup. The internal bore and the pressure relief side of the valve are much smaller than the Golf/Jetta pan equivalents. I often pick these up from junkyard engines, during my Sat. morning constitutionals. I recently took one of the G/J pressure relief assemblies apart and found a heavy deposit of caked or coked (overheated) oil which made the piston bind at full travel.

Good post. This might be a place where new is good!

Frank Grunthaner
