I've been taping over the upper inlet screen in my Air Cooled 83 Westy for years, it seems the heat is completely separate from the fresh air until it meets up in the air distributor / blower box that always leaks cold air. I've also used small pieces of magnetic media 2"x4" and just put them over the leaking vents, they're strong enough to hold in place and stop a considerable amount of air.
