If I was going to try to adjust the pushrod in place, I would remove the clutch master cylinder mounting bolts and move it as far to one site as possible, then use a channel lock pliers or the old sink basin wrench to loosen the locknut on the pushrod. You might have to turn the pushrod itself if you can't reach the locknut with a wrench.. I would keep loosening (lengthening) the pushrod 4-5 turns, reinstall the clutch master cylinder, test, re-adjust if necessary and re-tighten the locknut.

Has it been squeaking or creaking before? How many miles are on it? I found that the pivot point on the pedal itself had elongated by 1/4" and ended up installing a bushing in the pedal pivot point and a new pin. I have details of this on the drivetrain page of my website http://home.earthlink.net/~tjhannink/

The bad news is, you have to remove the dash and fascia to get to the pedal assembly. The good news is that the pedal assembly can be removed without disconnecting any of the hydraulic lines to the clutch and brake master cylinders.

The infiltration of cold air is due to the deterioration of the seals inside the heater plenum. You can pull the dash and fascia, split the heater plenum and replace the seals.
