Hey Mark,

I just did this. You will need to remove the air passage between the overhead unit the windshield unit - I think eight phillips head screws. The biggest problem will be getting the cover of the passage off, as you can't see it and it is held in place by double-sided tape. When the cover is off, disconnect the wiring harness. Then drop the overhead unit. Its held on the driver side by two 8mm bolts and on the passanger side by one 6mm bolt. The unit will drop down, its not too heavy but awkward to hold. Best to have a helper. As you pull in out, you will notice the drains on each side and you will have to slowy pull the drain hoses out - but not completely. I laid this unit on the middle seat so I could work on it. The only thing still connected at this point is the temperature wire that sticks in between the fins. This is really long so it will strectch to the middle seat. Then start disassembly.

The top cover is held on by double sided tape and a few screws. Remove these. You will notice that on the driver side, the cover wraps around the a/c hoses. There is a slot cut into the cover enalbing you to completely remove it. Then you will have access to the fan motor. You will need to remove a series of screws which hold it to the unit. Loosen these and the fan comes out. The actual fan motor is unlike the front and rear blower motors, in that it is assembled and held together by two screws, rather then pressed together and stamped shut. The motor is easily taken apart. Do it, clean the armiture, polish the shaft, grease the bushings and reassemble.

Fairly straight forward.

Good luck!

Hi,

Just in time for winter I'm trying to get my 85 AC working. It's never ran since I've had it.

I don't see how to access the blower fan, condensation drain lines, and all the refridgerant lines in the housing that is mounted on the roof of the van.

Does anyone know the trick on how to get in there?

Lower the thing off of the roof?

Thanks, Mark Ingalls
