Just brought my 84 1.9 in for California Emmisions. I had them do a precheck as I don't wish to get tied up in the California Gross Polluter business... Results: 2500 RPM: HC PPM 96 allowed 180 Pass CO% 0.83 allowed 1.20 Pass Idle: HC PPM 502 allowed 150 FAIL CO% 1.20 allowed 1.20 PASS IDLE RPM 955
Seeing as the bus runs fine, hets 20 miles to the gallon, all I did before bring it in was change the oil and turn the big screw on the throttle body to even out the idle. Any ideas before I spend big bucks to make this thing pass? My mechanic who use to nurse these things through inspection doesn't do it anymore. His friend down at the inspection station quit. How do I pull the hydrocarbon count down without messing up the tenuous CO %? tim o'brien san jose, ca BTW - It would have been in gross polluter land.
