I got the brushes at a local automotive electrical repair shop. I brought them the alternator to see if they could rebuild it (its better and cheaper to rebuild your bosch than to replace it with anything else) and they sold me the brushes. BTW, they wanted 3 or 4 $ for brushes but i only had $2 on me so i bargained them down!

To check the brushes: -remove starter -unscrew the black box on the back of the starter -you will see the two brushes, if they just fall out or are different lenths they need to be repaced -to repace grind down the solder on the back of the black box and the brushes will fall out with their wires attached -thread the wire attached to the new brushes through the hole in the solder and resolder to hold the wire to the back.

This will all make sense if you remove the black box and are looking at the brushes.
