It won't work on the the Vanagon engines...it's for the older Type-1 style engines that have one huge "gland nut" to secure the flywheel.

Hey everyone, I was looking around for a tool to install the main seal and I found this on the web.

Eliminate improper VW rear main seal installation with this preci-sion made professional tool. The seal is accurately pressed into the engine uniformly. This tool features unique design that includes clearance for stock as well as longer protruding high performance crankshaft dowel pins. For use by both professional mechanic and casual engine rebuilder. 7036 Deluxe Flywheel Seal Installer DELUXE FLYWHEEL SEAL TOOL 7036

It can be seen at this web page:

Has anyone ever used a tool like this to do the job. Also they seem to have a cheaper (around $10 instead of $45) tool which will do the same thing but requires removal of the dowel pins.

Thanks, Patrick
