Deer are the animal of choice in NY. I've managed to hit three over the twenty-six or so year I've been driving. First one got clobbered while pulling into the drive way of the house I grew up in, while driving my '71 Bug. The Bug was bent and banged up and the deer ran off. Was going a little fast - returning home from a Blue Oyster Cult concert...

The second actually commited seucide. Ran out of the woods smack into the side of a Crap Brown '72 Opel Manta that I bought two weeks earlier. Ruined the passenger side front quarter panel and the passenger door. Replacement parts were non-existant at the time so I donated that one to the local fire department for "Jaws of Life" training.

Third was in '94, in my venerable '88 Fox GL, on the Taconic State Parkway. Thing is, I saw two other deer jump across the road, yet I never backed down in speed. Third deer jumped out, I stomped on the brakes and clipped the hind quarter. The deer took out the front drivers side grill, lights, and body plastic. It was injured, you could tell, but it managed to limp off into the woods. Sold that car three weeks later to my mechanic for $400, with 195k miles on it.

(It's Fry-day and I'm bored...)
