Just a note on fall colors. If you're lucky enough to be in Kalifornia, US 395 between Topaz and Bishop is truly most excellent just now.

June lake loop, Kennedy lake, lee vining canyon, mcgee creek, mammoth creek, all stunningly bright with a most unusual "all colors" situation from brown to green with all the usual fall yellows, oranges, reds in between simultaneously. I will have pix on the calphoto yahoo group (www.egroups.com) under pensioners pix later this week.

Pmail for some GPS coords.

Now Chiracaua National Monument and the Sky Islands including Cochise's stronghold are simply beautiful places with unique life zones and fauna.

I rescued an ornate box turtle from certain turtle pizza several years ago and brought him (cochise) to sacramento. Alas, he missed his ladies and the life of a wild and free turtle stud in the Sky Islands. He hibernated that winter as turtles do and the next spring we took him back to a gentle creekside where after a couple of looks over his shoulder to make sure he wasn't being followed he charged off into the wilderness.

Say hi to cochise if you see him. He's the one with the smile.
