I saw a decent rust-free Rabbit pickup for sale locally (western Maryland) a few days ago, for $1500 firm. Maroon color, tan cloth seats, 4-speed, gas engine, fiberglass cap, 208K miles. It's not diesel or a Vanagon, but you could swap a diesel into it! And a great parts-getter for your Vanagon as well! I realized as I was looking at it that it was very familiar, as the previous owners were my sister and brother, so I had been the one who serviced it for it's entire life! It's a great running truck, needs exhaust (cheap$). I can check it out further if anyone would be interested.
