That cover is supposed to keep water out. Like when you wash your vehicle or drive in the rain. I have a rust out where the upper and lower body panels meet (from inside) just below the utility cluster that is partially caused from seepage from exposed vent. You will also introduce moisture into the firebox of your gas unit in your fridge. This isn't good over time. BTW be sure to leave the little screw fitting that comes out of the bottom of your fridge (vehicle interior) off during operation. BTW Bet the 82 fridge is colder than the 80. Unscrew the jet from the firebox of the 80 and clean/ream it out (JUST A LITTLE) and it should stay lit while driving under most conditions.
