In the event you want to take a half day or more off skiing, and the roads are in decent shape, I'd highly recommend a drive past Pemberton along Hwy 99 to Joffre Lakes and Duffy Lake. The former is a 5 minute hike off the road, the latter right along the road and a beautiful sight. I've never driven past Whistler in the winter however, so the conditions of this road may not be worth the risk, as parts of it are very steep and windy. I take it you're flying in? If so, consider yourself fortunate to not have to deal with the infamous Sea to Sky Highway - not for the faint of heart, especially in the winter on a weekend. Have fun!
