If you have an 82 diesel Vanagon with 4 speed your tranny is mounted much farther forward than the Tiico expects and something must be done. A "simple" answer is to use a waterboxer tranny, nose mount, and shift linkage. You will want taller gearing than the 4 speed diesel has anyway so you need a different tranny no matter what. The 83 5 speed diesel Vanagon would be a simple swap for a Tiico conversion as it has the tranny and engine in the same relative position as a Tiico. An aircooled tranny uses a compatible linkage to a diesel 4 speed but still mounts farther forward than a Tiico needs it to be. Mark > Bill Johnson wrote: > > Has anyone done this swap?
