Cofap rings are made in Brasil, I installed a set some 40,000 km ago on my 1.8 16V Golf engine and have so far not had any problems with them. They are considerably cheaper than German equivalents, but then the quality is probably not as good. I base this soley on the price differential so in no way is this a scientific observation. One would need to run these for a much longer period to be able to compare with the German equivalent. Cofap make most of the piston and cylinder barrel kits available for Type1 aircooled engines, the Mahle brand for type1 engines is also I beleive manufactured by Cofap.
