I've had this happen once in a while on my westy as well. I chaulk it up to another one of those quirky things (feature?) that happens while enjoying the ownership of the vanagon. I think the water collects in the luggage rack and when you move the van at a special rate/angle you get the "waterfall effect". Even better is the "waterfall effect" in a sunroof vanagon when the drains are clogged. Oooooo! does that water get cold!! :o

My wife had a similar feature in her '70 Square- back when the vent drain was clogged. Many mornings she got a lap drenching until I yanked the drain hose from the ventilation housing and jambed a coathanger up the drain hole which opened up the drain enough to let the water through again....

Cheers!

Steven
