Hi gang,

Here's a note from Calle Fallberg --- who has a Volvo engine in his vanagon --- thought you'all might be interested.

Cheers,

Hi Doug !

No, there haven't been too much time spent in front of the computor, has been busy working on the Vanagon ;-) It's not as bad as it sounds though, the engine conversion is just fine, has just been lots of those little hassles that follow every major work on a Vanagon or any car: the engine was well used so theere has been some work on the carb. , the alternator stopped charging, gearbox mount busted, starter dead..... But right now I'm ready to take on the work I should have done last fall, changing the fresh air fan...... It's funny how you ( I ) postphone these things , it would have been so much nicer to do this in the summer ( I'm working outdoors ) when I got the new fan from Bowwow but no, now it's below zero degrees ( Celsius) and the fan starts squealing like a pig again and that's when I remember it........ The Volvo engine is perfect for the Vanagon though, nice even power from just over idling speed, and with the 5 speed gearbox I seldom pass 3500 rpm even if it peaks at 5.500 ! Just below 3000 will give the legal hwy speed at about 11 litre gas per 100 kilometer wich is about the same as the WBX but then the carb still has to be tuned in properly . I have taken som pic's and as soon as I have the time, I'll try to put them up on my website together with a little evaluation of what it's been like so far and notify the listees.......

Regards Calle
