Jason,

Anything can be made to fit with minor machining. However, "minor" is a relative term. Golf's and late 5 lug Jettas have a bolt pattern of 5 X 100 mm. Vanagons have a 5 X 112 mm bolt pattern. Close but no cigar. You can have these drilled to fit. You may also have to clearance the center hole. Also check the offset (ET).

Cost is dependent on who you bring it to. One place I know in SoCal will do it for about $200. I've seen his work on Audi 4 X 108 mm alloys redrilled to fit Golfs at 4 X 100 mm. Although it physically works well, the modifications draws the eye to the obvious alterations. Noticeable at about 5 feet. Now that's an 8 mm difference. Chasing a 12 mm difference will even be more obvious.

If you can live with the added cost and cosmetic idiosyncrasies, then get them done by all means.

BTW, I intentionally did not touch on altering the bolt pattern on the vehicle as that would potentially cost you a lot more money down the line when you need to change brake parts. I also assumed that the offset of the wheels are such that having adapters made will not be practical either.
