The 145hp limit is not quite correct. The limit is 165km/h.

You may also install a 1200hp jet engine if the tranny ratio is so low that the car only runs 160km/h. That would be some accelaration!

I once saw a letter from VW where they claim 165km/h as the top speed with stock Vanagon brakes (´86 and newer).
