I picked up one of those at Target last summer. Worked great on the Cali trip, didn't kill the battery, and fit right between the seats with a little Velcro and a safety strap. The only problem I had was the plug didn't really like the vanagon cig lighter much and enjoyed popping out if jarred at all. I plan on modifying one or both before next yrs trip.
