At first, there are two things to check: the latch mounted to the door and the latch striker pin mounted to the door surround. Either one or both are loose or have shifted out of adjustment. If the striker has moved (likely because of all that door slamming you have been doing), it is readily seen by the outline remaining from its former location. So, after snugging up the latch fasteners, make certain the striker is residing where it was originally before any attempted adjustment.
