Subject: Trilogy of the trip to libby montana part 2 bad noise
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii

My first real problem with the vanagon on the trip occurred on the Colombia gorge. Heading back to sf we now were bucking a head wind of about 40mph. It was night time and the combined airspeed of 100 mph caused the front top overhead cover to vibrate making a sound like someone was cutting into the fiberglass cover with a saber saw. At first I thought it was the chair we head bungied to the front carrying area. Even after removing the chair it continued to make the terrible noise. The noise would disappear at ground speeds below 45 mph or when we turned on curves away from the gorge. We continued on to portland until I discovered the four screws that hold the carrier "you guessed it" down. There exist four screws that only needed to be tightened ever so much to completely eliminate the sound from the overhead carrier. As much as I read from this list I can still see there is room for air. gary
