Subject: ## found it: automatic reset fuses for A/C system

Hello Volks!

A while back I posted my solution to the nagging 50A A/C fuse problem (notably the fuse burning at the most inconvenient time and worse, the holder overheating and melting, up to causing a fire in certain occurances): replacing the original mediocre lead strip fuse with an automatic fuse that automatically resets itself. My solution solved several problems, mainly: 1. No need to open the rear pillar cover to replace the fuse. 2. No need to search for that weird and rare fuse. 3. Improved the heating problem due to improved contacts (that lead strip fuse didn't make good contact because it wasn't really flat).

At the time I had many requests for info about this device but didn't have it at hand. Well, I haven't forgotten you friends (yep, I've been helped A LOT on this list) so after a lengthy search here it is:

Notes: 1. The 50A unit was hard to get here, so I installed the 40A version. It would work but would trip when selecting the highest fan speed (4) in really hot weather. At the next lower setting (3) it worked fine. I have now found a 50A unit and installed it, but have not yet tested it in hot weather. I will post results when I have them.

2. Someone on the list p-mailed me for info. I have lost his email address due to email service termination. I hope he gets this posts...

3. I have posted this info to expedite delivery to needing members. I hope to get some pictures about actual installation soon. I've installed it with the screws used to fasten to the wire clamps towards the wiring (Important: take care not to short anything!) on a remaining sunken nut in the original fuse housing using the original screw used to fasten the lead strip fuse.

That's just my 2 cents...

===== Cheers, TinkerMan
