Steve:

I posted a long description of installing a second tank. It is in the archives for August 5, 2001, with a subject of Re: second propane tank setup.

Putting in bolts and hanging the tank was easy and quick. The time was running the copper line between tanks and doing the flare fittings. Still, less than a day to do the whole thing. A flare fitting always seems to take me a couple of trys.

On my last trip http://coyote.colorado.edu/jones/Oct2001 I ran the Carver P4 quite a bit, as well as the frig and cooking burners. At about day 8, while cooking dinner, the flame went out. I jumped out, opened the valve for tank #2, shut the valve for #1, jumped back in, relit the burner--and then checked to frig to happily discover that it had NOT even gone out.

Another advantage is that I run a tank empty, so when I refill it I know it will take the full 2.5 gal, and that makes it easier dealing the the RV propane places who are pretty lost with the Vanagon setup to begin with.

Now that's Happy Camping!
