After you've done it once, you'll wonder why you couldn't figure it out yourself, saving you from asking The List to such a question. BTDT, saved the responses for a good laugh. ;o)

1) Fold the seat bottom of the jump seats into their up-right and locked position, unless you've taken them out completely -- in which case, jump right to #2.

2) Decide whether you want the table up and open or locked-down closed. Hint - if you chose up and open, sleep with your head next to the rear hatch. Hitting your feet on the table will be much less painful when waking up with a start than hitting your head on same.

2a) Take the rear seat headrests off and stow them somewhere where they won't get in the way of driving or sleeping.

3) Make sure the bench seat is cleared of clutter, car seats, debris, children, and small pets.

4) Lift the rear bench seat up, like you were checking the rear heater core or putting spare parts and a jug of coolant under the seat.

5) Grab the release handle located on the back side of the rear seat-back, right about dead-center.

6) Holding the release handle AND the seat bottom (see #4), pull both forward until both are flat and resembling, roughly, a bed. The seat back is now flat between the extended seat bottom and the cargo area cushion.

There. Add a sleeping bag or a sheet and a couple of comforters and a pillow or three and you have a nice, expansive area for...ah...sleeping with your SO, pets, what-have-you. Scrap the sleeping accoutrements and you can load enough lumber and hardware to build a good sized deck, pack a friend for a cross-town move, or hold enough flats of flowers to plant you and your neighbor's gardens next year.

To restore to a seat, simply reverse the procedure, pulling up on the release handle and pushing the seat bottom back to it's normal seat-like position.

Hope this helps.

Subject: How the HECK do I turn the back seat into a bed?

I just bought a '91 Weekender and can't, for the life of me, figure out how to turn the back seat into a bed. I know it is SUPPOSED to fold down, but I can't seem to do anything with it other than fold the bottom part up (to expose the open space under the seat) or fold the back part FOWARD so the back (carpet covered part) of the seat is facing upwards, but it won't lay flat. I see pictures of other vans with their seats folded out, with the cushion parts facing up, making a very large bed. What am I doing wrong? Thanks, Joel
