Tim,

Sometimes redrilling is done by the style concious. I don't getting rims to fit my Syncro ro 2WD Vanagon. If you see my personal garage, you will find over 50 spare rims sitting there. However, in this particular scenario, I simply wanted the look of the classic 911 5-spoke Fuchs alloys. I alaready had the real Fuchs on my 87 GL but with the use od steel adpaters. These adapters substantially changed the offset and caused interference with the sliding door. I will not have that problem anymore.

I agree that there are quite a bit of other Audi and other aftermarket rims which may fit a Vanagon or Syncro. If fit was the only problem, sales of South African alloys wouldn't be so brisk and this question would not come up all the time. I simply wanted to pass on to the group that there are even MORE options with this method. Possibly less expensive options. I can pick-up a ET38 BBS wheel for a Camry for instance for under $68 in eBay plus throw in just under $100 in machine work and I'm all set with nice forged alloy wheels. I can guarantee you that BBS rims for Audis will sell for much more than $168.

BenT
