This sounds like a problem I had a while back, and it turned out that one of the vaccum hoses had popped of. If however, you've checked all the hoses, you may want to try replacing the fuel filter and see if that solves the problem. I don't know much about carbed set ups, so i'm afraid that's all I can offer.
