Greetings Isaac, While there is much to look for when considering a Vanagon, & checking for coolant leaks (especially those resulting from the *dreaded leaking heads)--here's another thing to be concerned about--Condition of all coolant hoses! A complete replacement of coolant hoses can cost upwards to $2,000 if done by a mechanic. Loss of coolant, due to old, brittle hoses or corroded/loose clamps has caused many an otherwise good van to dump coolant & destroy an engine. So, before you make an offer or hand over your hard-earned money, be *sure you've had this check out thoroughly & negotiate the final price accordingly. If you buy the van, don't delay having the hoses/stainless clamps replaced! Good luck, Phaedra '85 Wolfsburg Westy "Basecamp" --Peace On Earth!
