Graham,

I bought two Yoko Y356 tires with the "D" load rating earlier this year from the TireRack. Had them shipped to my house and installed at Sears Auto center (I took the wheels of the van). When I bought Pearl she had C load-rated tires on the rear and two mismatched passenger tires on the front (lovely). Now I have the D's on the rear and C's on the front.

My opinion is that they are a good value for tire that meets the load specs for a full Westy (I believe the Ds are truly reinforced tires but don't quote me on that.) I haven't used them in the snow yet, but will be doing lots of that in northern CA this winter. Anecdotal evidence is that tall and skinny tires are the way to go in the snow, so the 185R14 size of the Y356 makes sense here. I don't notice excessive road noise above all the usual racket that accompanies my Westy at speed (if you can call 6O mph speed).

On my Westy, the max. allowable weight on each front and rear tire is 1323 and 1433 lbs., respectively. Can't remember the load rating in lbs. of the C- and D-rated Yokos but they exceeded these comfortably.

Good luck!

Scott '85 Westy "Pearl" Santa Barbara, CA
