Tom and all, Found this great site (http://leonid.arc.nasa.gov/estimator.html) that tells all about the meteor shower. It even shows anticipated rate for a given area of the country. If you scroll down the page, there's a link to another page sponsored by the International Dark Sky Association. They have a map you can access that show where, within sixty miles of your home or zip code, the sky has the lowest level of light pollution. And from the looks of things, unless you in back-woods Maine, or the Adirondacks at the very least, you're pretty much screwed.

It's supposed to be pretty warm here in the Western portions of Upstate New York. I was thinking of taking my 5-year-old son camping along Lake Ontario on Saturday night just to see the meteors. We'll see. Worst case, I'll just sit in my back yard...

Subject: Leonid Meteor Showers

All the hype is that the meteor showers late Saturday (17) and early Sunday will be spectacular. I don't know of any organized events for them in the NorthWest. Last year OMSI (Oregon Museum of Science and Industry) put on an all night party but the meteorites were mostly a no-show.

Anybody from the Portland area know of anything planned? I thought that the Vista House at Crowne Point in the gorge would be good, but I don't know if it's legal.
