Subject: Fw: Best Roof Vent gasket replacement?

i was able to stop mine leaking by pulling the gasket off and oozing some 3M Super Weatherstrip Adhesive into the gap of the gasket, then putting it back on. what was happening on mine was that the flat place around the skylight was trapping a puddle of water when it rained heavily (the van is parked with the nose slightly downhill). the water was apparently getting high enough on one side to seep under the gasket and make it around the edge of the roof underneath. the adhesive sealed that edge and it leaks no more.

i got the stuff at a body shop supplier ... a store that sells paint and bondo and such to the fender fixers in town. look in the yellow pages under Automobile ... they have their own subsection in there. i think it's about $5 a tube. good stuff. but don't get it on your skin ... it's hell to get off! :)

oh, and get some 3M General Purpose Adhesive Remover. about $8 in a quart can. that'll clean up any ooze/spill from under the gasket. also gets off bugs and pine tar and road tar and all sorts of stuff from the bus paint. it leaves a whitish residue but it washes off with water.

good luck! joel
