Yep, just bought one of these, just to have it. $25.00 at a local Farm store.

It's made out of some kind of rubber, and is flat, and made to glue on the bottom of your engine ( glue provided )

I don't think it throws enough watts though----I'm not so sure that 250w will be enough to warm up anything in sub zero weather.

I'll look at it tomorrow, and relay the 800 number on the package.

I think it is made in Tacoma Washington.

Terry

E-mail message From Alistair Bell;

While I was at the local VW dealer buying a new sliding door handle, (exterior, they all break sooner or later, don't they?), I picked up a copy of VW's stylish "DriverGear/Driver" magazine. In amongst the beautiful people and their new VWs was a listing for an "Oil Reservoir Heater". the copy... "The oil reservoir heater helps reduce engine wear by heating the important parts of your engine and helps provide faster engine cranking in cold weather. The flexible heating pad is custom designed to match your engine. Dealership only. Professional installation required at an additional charge. New Beetle, Passat 1.8T MY98+, Golf/GTI, Jetta, Eurovan MY00+. ZVW-915-001, $87.25" The picture shows an orange/brown rectangular pad with a 110 V power cord attached. I am guessing its made up of a resistance heating element covered in reinforced silicon sheeting. How it is attached to the sump is unclear, but it may be a solution for I4 powered Vanagons, and maybe wasserboxers.
