Subject:      oxygen sensor replacement

i just got a new oxygen sensor and i have a question,
the new one i have has about three inches of wire
leading from it, with a metal conector at the end, the
old sensor has a wire that leads right into the engine
compartment, probobly two feet long....my question is
this, can i just cut the old wire, and crimp it into
the new metal clasp? or should i send the sensor back
and try to find one with an impressive amount of wire
attached to the sensor already....any ideas appreciated
