I just looked at the compartment for the battery and now I see what you
mean. There is a large open area for the top terminals to fit through when
placed on its side.

Dear vanagon man,

You are clever beyond words. Because the optima battery is sealed, placing
it on its side in the battery box behind the driver's seat eliminates any
need to custom make a top or cut any metal AND to boot you can still use
your swivel seat.

BRILLIANT!

What a great idea. This saves a lot of time retrofitting the top cover, or
cutting holes. AND it saves so much time.

You have convinced me to use the battery compartment instead of the under
sink idea. Way to go, my new friend.
