Subject: Tach for van
Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1"

Am looking at installing an off the shelf tach rather than trying to install one in the instrument panel. I am down to two different types. One is 0-4000 rpm (is this enough range) on a big dial (which I really don't have room for) which probably has a spark coil pickup of some type. The second possible is a digital that has an inductive pickup that gets hooked to a spark plug wire. Does anyone have any experience with using an inductive pickup on a tach? Is there a problem with increasing the length of the sense wire? (I am looking for someone with experience here. Based on my experience with the oil pressure LED being triggered by the spark plug wiring, I am just trying to think ahead and utilize the experience of some of the list members.)

William
