It is actually fairly easy to remove the cigarette lighter from the dash. While it may not be the preferred or only way of doing it, I have found that using a wooden or plastic wedge in a prying motion around the circumference of the socket works well. IIRC, the lighter is only a friction-fit situation, no pesky screws or other. Limited slack in the wiring, so when it finally gives proceed with caution. Just be patient and apply the prying evenly. I too would like to know how to get that cigarette lighter out of there. W. ----- Original Message ----- From: James Shinosky To: vanagon@GERRY.VANAGON.COM Sent: Tuesday, November 27, 2001 5:11 PM Subject: Heater/vent control panel/cigarette lighter illuminating lights...
Hi there... My illuminating lights behind the heater/vent control panel and the cigarette lighter (with green ring) in my 88 Weekender went out for a while. With daylight getting shorter and more driving in the dark, I decide to get those light bulbs replaced, anyone experience in replacing bulb in those two places? Do I have to tear them out of the dashboard? Or let my hand crawling inside the dashboard? Any advice will be appreciated... Thanks. Jim w88kender LA, California
