VW issued a "tech bulletin" in August 1990 stating, among other capacities, 2.8 qt. for the diesel and wasserboxer trannies and 3.2 qt. for the air-cooled. This change is said (scuttlebutt) to be for easier shifting with the mineral oil, SAE 80/80W/90 GL-4, in place that VW specs. This spec is not for a "dry fill" but is for replacement after draining (there is a fair amount left in the tranny after draining). This amount will leave the level somewhat shy of the bottom of the filler hole. If you are going to use synthetic oil, filling to the bottom of the fill hole was recommended to me by Daryl of AA Transaxle. -Dana- Dennis Atkins wrote: > > What is the oil capacity of the 2wd vanagon trans.
